In the time since it first debuted, I've gone from absolutely despising Nicki Minaj's craven cheeseball dance-rap single "Starships" to kind of liking it, which means I'll probably love it before the summer is out; these things always seem to work out that way. I'm not sure I can say the same thing about the brand-new "Starships" video, though. Director Anthony Mandler shot the clip in Oahu, and it's a furiously goofy affair with an alien Nicki beaming down to have a beach-rave with fire-dancers and assorted Eurotrashy types. The end result may be more deeply silly than the song's Vengaboys sample source, and it puts Nicki's theater-kid past on bold display. Watch it below.
