Jack White Has The Number One Album In The Country

From Elephant on, every album from every band that counts Jack White as a member has debuted in the top 10 of the U.S. Billboard charts. But until this morning, Jack White had never found himself in the top position. The closest he ever came was with the White Stripes' Icky Thump, which peaked at #2. That has now changed. Blunderbuss, White's very good solo debut, tops this week's chart, and the UK chart as well, as Pitchfork points out. The album sold 138,000 first-week domestic copies. Sometimes, it seems, goofy-ass promotional stunts work. Another thing that sometimes works: Making really good music. Salute.
