Four Tet – “BACK2THESTART”

Four Tet

Four Tet

Kieran Hebden releases a ton of music. He just put out a new Four Tet album and a posthumous collaboration with jazz drummer Steve Reid, he produces a bunch of songs for a bunch of different artists, and he has a tendency to just throw up new material on SoundCloud under various monikers. The way he releases stuff on SoundCloud would make it seem inconsequential or tossed-off, but "tossed-off" for Kieran Hebden is apparently more like "beautifully, immaculately crafted" by anyone else's standards. As Pitchfork points out, a version of "BACK2THESTART" appeared in Hebden's Rinse FM set last October, but the producer just officially shared the full song via Twitter in his usual humble, low-key fashion.

When I start a track by searching "acappella" in pirate bay the music always comes out a bit different.

The sprawling 7-and-a-half-minute dance track follows a thumping, swirling groove that incorporates some lovely pitch-shifted vocal samples of Ellie Goulding and Cheryl Cole, among others. Listen below.

Hebden also tweets that he's "working on loads of music at the moment too... lots of collaboration," so probably expect some more stuff in the near future.
