The 5 Best Videos Of The Week

It's entirely possible that the week's best piece of music-related video was the spaceship-prison-breakout scene from Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 set to Jay & The Americans' "Come A Little Bit Closer." If that was a music video, it would probably be on the top of this list. But it's not. This week's picks are below.

5. Honeyblood - "Walking At Midnight" (Dir. James Copeman)

Honeyblood are quietly becoming truly great music-video artists, and their horror-movie pastiches always play around with classic-movie imagery without trivializing the squirmy fears that made those movies classics in the first place. I hope they never stop.

4. Marika Hackman - "My Lover Cindy" (Dir. Sam Bailey)

I have seen so many thousands of music videos in my life. At this point, I'd say it's pretty hard to surprise me. But this went places that I did not foresee.

3. Harry Styles - "Sign Of The Times" (Dir. Yoann Lemoine)

If you were to hang me, by a cable, from a helicopter, I would curl up into a ball and cry. This Styles kid is able to lip-sync and smile beatifically while those helicopter blades chop the air above him. I'm just impressed.

2. Perfume Genius - "Die 4 You" (Dir. Floria Sigismondi)

So which one are you in your relantionship? Are you Mike Hadreas, slinking rapturously through the dry ice? Or are you the indistinguishable pile of Cronenbergian body-horror muscle mass?

1. Alt-J - "In Cold Blood" (Dir. Caspar Balsley)

If more nature documentary found their way into the bloody aftermaths of action scenes, I'd watch more nature documentaries.
