Victoryland – “Fits”

Meg Ha

Last month ex-Blood member Julian McCamman announced a new album My Heart Is A Room With No Cameras In It from his solo project Victoryland. He released the lead single "No Cameras," a gloriously blistering indie rock spell that conjured the Cure's Robert Smith and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. This week, he's back with another hypnotic single called "Fits."

It's easy to get lost in the six minutes of "Fits." Parts of it remind me of Yo La Tengo, the Flaming Lips, and even a sigh of Galaxie 500. Despite its mesmerizing opening with warm acoustic chords and shuffling percussion, there's a necessary seasoning of dissonance. Crackling noise (maybe malfunctioning guitars?) haunt the track. McCamman's quivering vocals writhe and burst like a combusted wire.

In a press release, McCamman shared this sentiment about the song: "A dance/trance song about the ultimate search for love in the face all of my childish demands. Debts rarely get paid, why would love be any different?"

Listen to "Fits" below.
