Dorothy is a new musical project put together by Jude Woodhead (aka Saint Jude), Marco Pini (of GG Skips, Sorry, RIP Magic), and Francesca Brierley (aka heka). A few months ago they announced their debut EP Sea Songs, which is out this Friday. Today, they've shared the eponymous EP closer.
"Dorothy" is a woozy, sort of romantic instrumental (mostly) ditty. You can hear birds chirping in the background, the distant conversation of diners at a cafe, the placement of a teacup, and muffled laughter. There's also a cushiony layer of static throughout the whole thing. It sort of sounds like something Leonard Cohen might have made if he watched a lot of Twin Peaks. It's really lovely and a little bit surreal.
On the track, Dorothy shared this scenic tidbit: "Dorothy walks down Ocean Avenue and sits on a bench at the edge of the sand, listening to the people, watching the sun stretch over the horizon like a jammy orange egg yolk. She talks on the telephone. She sits there until the day is done."
