For many years. New York synth-punks L.O.T.I.O.N. were one of the wildest bands on their city's DIY underground scene. They've only gotten wilder as they've branded themselves as L.O.T.I.O.N. Multinational Corporation and moved toward dance music on records like 2022's W.A.R. In The Digital Realm. Now, they've got a cheery holiday tune for us.
L.O.T.I.O.N. Multinational Corporation's latest is called "(It's Our) Last Christmas," and that title, with its excellent use of parentheses, should tell you exactly what you're getting. It's apocalypse Christmas, baby! It's a bubbly synthpop track about the dawning realization that the world is ending this holiday season: "The Christmas hum turns to sirens/ And I see the tanks pull through my silent street/ I thought we'd make it to morning/ But it looks like we won't make it to New Year's Eve."
I'm about 99.9% certain that the Lulu who sings on this song and a bunch of past L.O.T.I.O.N. records is not "To Sir With Love" Lulu, but that tiny sliver of doubt remains. Listen below.
