Anthemic, emo-flavored Philly indie rockers Sweet Pill are preparing to return with their sophomore album There's Still A Glow, and we were really into lead single "No Control." Today, they follow it with "Glow," the album's sort-of title track. It's a soaring chest-thumper, and much like "No Control," it's all about realizing that you need to change the way you're living.
Sweet Pill give themselves the space to seriously rock out on "Glow." It's a big song with big riffs and big vocals, and it's always cool to hear a young band really going for something. Bandleader Zayna Youssef clearly had some things to get off her chest. In a press release, Youssef says:
"Glow" is about living my life with my eyes closed. Realizing I may be on the way to rock bottom, I kind of want to pretend it is not happening. We all know what this is called: D E N I A L. I perceive through this hazy lens that is constantly fogged by a glow. To me, a glow is a shape with no contour lines--a limitless being that sucks you in as you stare. I am in a daydream-like state, refusing to snap out of it. This impaired judgement that I wear sugarcoats and distracts me from the reality in front of me. Yet maybe I want to keep my eyes closed for a little longer...
Past Sweet Pill collaborator Johnny Komar directed the "Glow" video, and it's got the band performing while blindfolded. Check it out below.
Still There’s A Glow is out 3/13 on Hopeless.
