Last November, Liverpool-based singer-songwriter Hank Bee announced her new EP a sudden hankering with the open-armed single "Corner." Today she's returned with another new song called "10:23."
"10:23" is a lilting rock song that embodies early works from folk-rockers Sharon Van Etten or Hand Habits. According to the press release, the track was written in March 2023, while Bee looked out an attic window of an eight-person houseshare in Liverpool’s Georgian quarter. It takes its name from the time it was written. She explained how the location was integral to the creative process:
I love writing at a window. Watching the world pass makes me feel like I’m watching a film (I also sometimes write while watching the tv) - I recently learned that John Prine (probably my songwriting hero) used to rent hotel rooms and would take his guitar and watch the shit hotel TV whilst he wrote.
The song comes with a video directed by Aidan Shard. Watch below.
a sudden hankering is out 1/30 via Memorials Of Distinction. Pre-order here.
