Landowner Announce New Album Assumption: Hear “Rival Males”

The Massachusetts post-punk band Landowner impressed us with 2023's Escape The Compound, and it looks like they impressed Exploding In Sound, the great NYC indie label with roots in Boston. EIS will release Assumption, the new Landowner LP dropping at the end of next month.

According to promo materials for the new album, Landowner's original guiding concept was "weak d-beat," and they do indeed bring a hardcore posture to lead single "Rival Males." But the 90-second track has sort of a spindly sock-hop feel, too, which makes for a fun tension with Dan Shaw's aggressive barking.

They lean into that tension in Piper Preston's music video, which finds the raging crowd at a Landowner show sometimes shifting into coordinated dances. Watch below.

01 "Assumption"
02 "PRAY For The Environment"
03 "Linear Age"
