Courtney Barnett is back, baby! The great Australian artist released the instrumental album End Of The Day in 2023, but it's been, what, four and a half years since she dropped Things Take Time, Take Time, her last LP with vocals. In the time since then, Barnett's label Milk! Records has shut down, and she's moved from her homeland to Los Angeles. This spring, she'll come back with her new album Creature Of Habit, and she'll also head out on an extensive North American tour.
Last year, Barnett shared her single "Stay In Your Lane," and that turns out to be the opening track from Creature Of Habit. Today, Barnett follows that song with "Site Unseen," exactly the kind of pleasant, homespun, self-aware rocker that Barnett does so well. This one has harmony vocals from kindred spirit Katie Crutchfield, better known as Waxahatchee. Here's what Barnett says about the song:
I tried three separate times over two years to track this song, and each time it either wasn’t finished or didn’t sound right, and each time we had to start again. I kept hearing this really high harmony in my head, so for the fourth and final version, I asked Katie if she’d be into singing it with me. I’m a big Waxahatchee fan. I really love Katie’s songwriting and her voice, so it was an honour to have her sing on Site Unseen.
Giraffe Studios' Juliana and Nicola Giraffe are the stars and directors of the whimsical, cartoonish "Site Unseen" video. Below, check out that clip, the Creature Of Habit tracklist, and the dates for Courtney Barnett's upcoming tour, where she'll share stages with Momma, Zoh Amba, and Truman Sinclair, plus Built To Spill at the LA show.
