SoundCloud rap veteran Denzel Curry has a whole new crew. Today, Curry has a couple of big announcements. One of them is the formation of a collective that he calls the Scythe. Curry found his way to the spotlight as part of Florida's anarchic underground posse Raider Klan, but this is a different thing. All of the members of the group are already pretty famous in one way or another. Alongside Curry, we've got Georgia's Bktherula, North Carolina's TiaCorine, and Curry's fellow Raider Klan veteran, as well as A$AP Ferg. Can you do that? Just take a guy from another crew and draft him to your own? I guess you can. (A$AP Ferg changed his name to just plain FERG two years ago, but I haven't gotten used to that yet.)
All of the members of the Scythe appeared on Denzel Curry's last project, 2024's extremely fun King of the Mischievous South Vol. 2. All of them will also appear on Curry's next project, which is called Strictly 4 The Scythe and which comes out in March. The record also has contributions from non-Scythe members Juicy J, Smino, 454, Luh Tyler, Rich The Kid, 1900Rugrat, and Sadboi, as well as fast-rising Georgia rapper Lazer Dim 700, who's on the new single "Lit Effect."
"Lit Effect" features both Bktherula and Lazer Dim 700 alongside Curry, which means it's a reunion of the 2024 Waka Flocka Flame update "Still In The Paint." The BNYX-produced beat is a churning, fired-up bounce, and it sounds like a cleaned-up version of something that Curry might've made with Raider Klan many years ago. All three rappers sound great on this one, but Curry is really rapping out of his mind. (Curry is having a great week; he also went nuts on the Maxo Kream/JPEGMAFIA collab "Fake Jeezy.")
