It hasn't been long since we've heard from Lapgan. The Chicago-based hip-hop producer dropped Lapgan Is Ecstatic, his album-length reimagining of Mos Def's The Ecstatic, in December. This week, he's back with news of another full-length project.
Threads, out in April, is a collaboration with the South Asian production duo Baalti. It's a psychedelic dance record created together in the California desert in 2024. Lead single "Lime Tikka" comes with a short film by EXCISE DEPT. Lapgan and Baalti offered some background:
Desert-maxxing in a fever dream. We wanted the nadhaswaram (a loud acoustic South Indian reed instrument) to sound like it barged into the club unannounced, bringing chaos and ceremony and joy onto the dancefloor. We really wanted to blend the boundaries between past and present on this project, and this tune really gets that.

Threads is out 4/3 on Azal/FADER Label.
