Lip Critic had the music world in a chokehold with their frantic debut album Hex Dealer, which earned them our Band To Watch honor. Today, the group is announcing its followup, Theft World, and the backstory is a trip.
While Lip Critic were touring Hex Dealer, frontman Bret Kaser's identity was stolen and hundreds of purchases had been made in his name, including the band's catalog on Bandcamp. They tracked down the scammer, who turned out to be a young fan in a Five Nights At Freddy's hoodie convinced that Lip Critic's music contained hidden codes for an elaborate scavenger hunt. They recorded him at a halal spot while he explained this imagined lore, inspiring the group to scrap what they'd recorded for a new album and start anew. The result is Theft World.
The eerie, intense lead single "Legs In A Snare" is out now, and the music video directed by Colter Fellows is a fever dream. Watch below.
