Fever Ray's last record was 2023's Radical Romantics, which earned our Album Of The Week honor. Now, Karin Dreijer is making their film debut in Maggie Gyllenhaal's American Gothic romance The Bride! and contributing new songs to the soundtrack.
A new four-track EP is out today containing both cinematic and original versions of Fever Ray's brand-new tunes "The Lake" and "Wrong Flower." In The Bride!, Fever Ray appears in a scene where they perform in an underground night club.
"I'm very thankful for being invited to this project by Maggie Gyllenhaal! I was a fan before, but when I read the manuscript for the first time, I was hooked," Dreijer says. "The language of The Bride! is poetic, fun and magical, exactly where I like to exist."
The Bride! stars Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, Peter Sarsgaard, Jake Gyllenhaal, Annette Bening, and Penélope Cruz. Here's the synopsis:
A lonely “Frank” (Bale) travels to 1930s Chicago to ask groundbreaking scientist Dr. Euphronious (Bening) to create a companion for him. The two revive a murdered young woman and The Bride (Buckley) is born. What ensues is beyond what either of them imagined: Murder! Possession! A radical cultural movement! And outlaw lovers in a wild and combustible romance!
Meanwhile Fever Ray's brother and the Knife collaborator Olof Dreijer also has music on the way; this week he announced he's signed with George Daniel's dh2.
