Cashier – “The Weight”

Olivia Perillo

In just a couple of weeks Cashier will release their debut EP The Weight. The Louisiana band have been leading up to its release with singles "Like I Do" and "Part From Me," two songs we liked so much we named them both some of the Best Songs Of The Week. Today Cashier are sharing the EP's also-great title track.

While "Like I Do" and "Part From Me" are both urgent and uptempo, "The Weight" maintains all that intensity through a more relaxed and introspective lens. As vocalist Kylie Gaspard puts it, the shoegazey track is about coming to terms with the passage of time, and how simply being alive can feel heavy in itself. She explains further:

As the title track of the EP, I wanted to tie the themes of all the songs together. In this song, we wanted to create something that honored the influences that came before us. While staying true to having the guitar as the focal point, the lyrics make this a coming-of-age piece, trying to find where we fit in this life, and how we long for connection.
