The hazy, downcast London underground rapper Jawnino has become a real favorite around here lately. Last year, Jawnino made it onto our list of the year's best new artists even before he teamed up with SURF GANG, the production collective behind the upcoming Earl Sweatshirt/MIKE double album, to release the extremely cool collaborative project amnesia. Today, Jawnino's got more music out.
Jawnino just released a new two-song single called Melancholia, released in collaboration with Deer park, a New York rapper/producer who's worked with London rap types like fakemink. (Yes, that's how Deer park capitalizes his name. No, I don't know why.) Melancholia has two songs, "Mattress" and "Buggy," that sit firmly in the same spaced-out, evocative zone as amnesia. I can really get lost in these tracks. The latter features YT, another London underground rapper. Listen below.
