In a few short weeks, we'll all get freaky with Friko. That's when the enormously likable young Chicago indie band will release their new album Something Worth Waiting For. Right now, that's an apt title. Friko's first two singles from the LP, "Seven Degrees" and "Choo Choo," were among our favorite songs of their respective weeks. Will they go three for three? You'll have to wait until Friday to find out, but you won't have to wait that long to find out if their new song is good. I'll tell you right now. Yes. Yes, it is.
Friko's very good new song is called "Still Around." It's a jumpy, sprightly collage of jangly hooks. Maybe they've been digging deep into the Flying Nun catalog, or maybe they just independently arrived at that kind of buzzy, tuneful nervousness on their own. Along with "Still Around," Friko have announced plans for some in-store sets around the time the album drops, as well as a full North American headlining run in fall.
