A week ago, we got some startling news from the rap world: Memphis rap stars Pooh Shiesty and Big30 were among a group of men arrested on robbery and kidnapping charges for an incident at a Dallas recording studio involving Gucci Mane.
Shiesty, who is signed to Gucci's record label 1017, allegedly set up a meeting at the studio for the purpose of discussing his contract. At the meeting, Shiesty allegedly forced one of Gucci's associates to sign a contract release at gunpoint while Big30 blocked the door. Shiesty and Big30's group also allegedly took cash and jewelry from their victims, and one member of Gucci's party was reportedly choked until he was nearly unconscious.
Gucci has addressed the incident today on a new diss track called "Crash Dummy." Produced by his longtime collaborator Zaytoven, the song centers on the refrain "I done been betrayed, now my heart turned cold." It begins humorously, with Gucci leaning into the bitter irony: "Tell the truth, you went out like a real crash dummy/ And after all that, boy, you still signed to me."
Elsewhere in the song, Gucci gives a play-by-play of that fateful day in Dallas: "You know I got my bread up, I always keep my head up/ I thought it was a business meeting, but it was a set up/ I walk in the room, you can feel the pressure building/ N****s dapped me up, the whole time they plotting against me."
