This new Lowertown album: It's gonna be good. "I Like You A Lot"? The perfect oddball love song. "Big Thumb"? An eccentric gem. Now, we get "Worst Friend," a classically catchy quiet-to-loud rocker.
About the track, Olivia Osby and Avsha Weinberg offer:
This song was written with our folk inspirations at heart, June and Johnny Cash, Dylan and Baez, trading verses about reaching the point where a lack of self awareness of one’s shortcomings and accountability for one's mistakes can lead to pushing everyone away and your inevitable downfall. Self sabotage, inner darkness and aimlessness are common themes on Ugly Duckling Union.
Based off the singles so far, Ugly Duckling Union does genuinely feel like a concept album, especially when Osby and Weinberg trade lines like they're in dialogue, which they do in this song. It's cathartic as hell when their voices come together in the chorus, and there's a great outro, too. The Jaxon Ray-directed music video only adds to the melodrama. Watch below.
Ugly Duckling Union is out 5/22 via Summer Shade.
