Jim Ghedi – “The Hungry Child”

Natasha Edgington

The English folk musician Jim Ghedi told us all about his album Wasteland upon its release last year. Today, he has followed it up with something darker and heavier.

New single "The Hungry Child" delves into the Lankum zone, steering ancient folk sounds into haunted, shadowy realms. I'm also picking up a bit of Murder City Devils in there, maybe? And, in the eerie heaviness, perhaps some later Sunny Day Real Estate? But mostly it sends me straight to the British Isles at their scariest and most mysterious, even as Ghedi sings about current societal crises.

"I wanted to push the sound even more heavier, chaotic almost like capturing the sound of destruction, as things are collapsing around us," Ghedi says in a press release. He accomplished that goal, and the song's effects are intensified by the music video he directed with Jordan Carroll. Watch below.
