Hunter Biden Finally Breaks His Legendary Silence About Fakemink

Perhaps you saw fakemink — one of our favorite new artists of last year — at Coachella earlier this month. If not, perhaps you saw photos of Hunter Biden — son of former US President Joe Biden — hanging out with the London rapper backstage during the festival's second weekend. When those photos went viral, a lot of people thought they were AI-generated, considering the 56-year-old lobbyist/businessman is not the type of person you might expect to enjoy an off-kilter cloud rap set at Coachella. But fakemink associate Christian Thomas-Irving, aka CTi, confirmed to Stereogum that the encounter did in fact happen, and TMZ confirmed that it was real, too. fakemink’s “Night, Blooming Jasmine .” engineer Moustafax2 posted a selfie with Biden too. Now, Biden himself has broken his legendary silence on the matter.

On Friday, noted Fleet Foxes fan Biden appeared at alt-media personality Andrew Callaghan's All Gas No Brakes x Channel 5 event at the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix on Friday (Apr. 24). While Biden was onstage alongside masked graffiti artist Polo Cutty, an audience member asked him, "How was Coachella?" Biden responded: "Fakemink. All the way." Callaghan previously did an in-depth interview with Biden last summer, and it seems worth noting that in that video, Biden appears to be wearing the same shirt in that he wore to both Coachella and to the Channel 5 event. (Biden will appear at multiple stops on the Channel 5 tour, and there's been talk of a cage match with his presidential son successors Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr.)

Anyway. It's nice that Biden has nice things to say about fakemink's Coachella set, because SFGate reported that he "almost flopped" during his Weekend 1 performance. fakemink even responded to critics during his Weekend 2 set: “I don’t give a fuck if you guys think I’m a bad performer. Nobody can do it like me.” During his show two nights later, coincidentally also in Phoenix, he doubled down on those remarks with a "fuck Coachella." See relevant posts below.
