What an unpredictable collection of proper nouns! On Sunday, the Dave Matthews Band headlined Memphis' Riverbeat Music Festival, with St. Vincent in the immediate-support spot. Those two might not make the most likely collaborators, but they still joined forces during the DMB's set. St. Vincent joined Dave Matthews and friend for their song "Spoon" and for a cover of the 1984 Talking Heads classic "Burning Down The House." Check out some fan footage below.
The Dave Matthews Band have covered "Burning Down The House" many times over the years, including at Talking Heads' Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction in 2002. One time, I landed on the DMB's version of "Burning Down The House" while scanning through radio stations and mistook it for the original, and my wife made fun of me for what felt like hours. St. Vincent, meanwhile, is a longtime David Byrne collaborator. The two of them reunited at the New Orleans Jazz Fest the previous weekend. They performed a different Talking Heads song, the 1986 hit "Wild Wild Life," which the two of them did together throughout their 2013 tour. Here's video from New Orleans:
