Mike D with the master plan? A few weeks back the Beastie Boy went viral by performing his group's stone cold classic "So Whatcha Want" in a surprise appearance with Very Nice Person, the band led by his sons Skyler and Davis Diamond, at the Ojai Valley Women's Club. He'd guested with the boys two nights earlier at Malibu surf shop Brothers Marshall, but the Ojai show is the one that went nuclear on social media. Now it seems Michael Diamond is ready to put on some proper performances.
Last week, Mike D was announced as the headliner for Beyond The Streets, a new Paris music festival, alongside Pussy Riot, Circle Jerks, and others. That's going down June 20 at L’Espace Périphérique. Today he's revealed some gigs happening before that, two in California and two in New York.
In an Instagram post after the Ojai show, Mike D said postcards would be going out soon. Over the past month he's been sharing some teaser videos that suggest he's been working on new music. There's also a new website at miked5d.com. Notably, the postcards also include the name Mike D 5D. Smells like an album rollout to me.
In other Beasties news, there was a deluxe reissue of To The 5 Boroughs in March, and Monday was the anniversary of Adam Yauch's death. Check out Mike D's tour dates below.
