The Beatles are fucking back — well, for obvious reasons, only sort of. A couple months ago, Paul McCartney announced a new album The Boys Of Dungeon Lane that's out later this month. He's already shared lead single "Days We Left Behind," and today he's reunited with Ringo Starr for their first ever duet "Home To Us."
"Home To Us" is the only song on the forthcoming album that features a guest drummer. McCartney plays most of the instruments on the project. The song came together from a drum track Paul constructed with Starr in mind and then invited hime to record with producer Andrew Watt. The track also features backing vocals from Chrissie Hynde and Sharleen Spiteri. (The former was recently not shy about pointing out the vapidity of celebrity culture and its attendant media coverage following the Monday's Met Gala...but what about all the pretty dresses?!)
The Boys Of Dungeon Lane is inspired by McCartney's coming of age in Liverpool. He shared that the track was made with Ringo in mind and that he's reflecting on his humble origins:
In writing the song I’m talking about where we came from. In common with a lot of people, you come from nothing and you build yourself up. Ringo was from the Dingle, and that was well hard. He said he used to get mugged coming home, because he worked. Even though it was crazy, it was home to us. I made the song around that idea and sent it to Ringo. He sent me back a version where he just added some lines to the chorus, so I thought, maybe he doesn’t like it. I rang him and he said he thought I only wanted him to sing one or two lines, and I said I’d love to hear him sing the whole thing. So we took my first line, Ringo’s second line, and then we had a duet. We’d never done that before.
