Theatre Announce Debut EP Incarnate: Hear “You Are”

The Irish band Theatre has a grand, churning sound, and they deserve your attention even though they chose, presumably of their own free will, to pick the word "Theatre" as their band name. Last month, Theatre released their impressive debut single "The Fall," Their first EP Incarnate comes out next month, and they've got another new track out today.

As with "The Fall," the best thing about "You Are" is the titanic voice of Theatre frontwoman Maeve O’Shea, who brings a wailing intensity that can't help but recall past Irish greats. The song itself is equal parts heavy and dreamy. Theatre come from Limerick, the Cranberries' hometown, and "You Are" makes me think of the moments on No Need To Argue where the Cranberries cranked up the intensity. Here's what O'Shea says about the song:

"You Are" explores visual imagery attached to my childhood spent in West Cork. Lyrically, each verse strings random memories together, the kind of memories that pop into your head as you’re walking down the street alone or doing your dishes. As the idea became whole, "You Are" turned into an ode to my childhood self, an anthem that I wish I could have heard when I needed it.
