Widowspeak – “Soft Cover”

Alexa Viscius

The combination of Molly Hamilton's mystically cooed melodies and Robert Earl Thomas' subtly virtuosic riffs has been hitting lately. The married couple, otherwise known as Widowspeak, is rolling out new album Roses, and early singles "If You Change" and "No Driver" affirmed their status as one of the best in their field.

This week they added one more preview in the form of "Soft Cover." It's got hooks and momentum galore, and Hamilton says it's "about infatuation: wanting and daydreaming about someone as you’re going about your day… even if, and maybe especially if, you’ve been with them a long time. Widowspeak recorded "Soft Cover" at a facility called the Old Carpet Factory on the Greek island Hydra. "We brought in a Rhodes for this one, so it came in a car from Athens, then took a boat, then a donkey carried it up to the studio,” Hamilton says.
