Street Sects – “No Percentage In Caution”

"I woke up at noon, and there were 45 years gone/ I never imagined I would live this long/ You don't notice the days slipping away until there's nothing left to protect except your next paycheck." That's the opening verse from "No Percentage In Caution," the latest single from the noisy and transgressive quasi-industrial Austin duo Street Sects, and it might be the realest shit they ever wrote.

Last year, Street Sects released two albums on the same day — one under their own name, another as Street Sex. Right now, Street Sects are out on tour with fellow Austin bad-vibes conjurers Portrayal Of Guilt, and now they're releasing a new single through POG's label. "No Percentage In Caution," that single's A-side, is a nasty meditation on death and consumerist desire that brings some serious Nine Inch Nails/Faith No More vibes — sounds that would've been too obvious for this group a few years ago. Here's what they say about the new EP in the Bandcamp description:

The "No Percentage In Caution" 7" serves as something of a bridge between the noise collage approach of our previous albums and the more rhythm based/song focused direction we’re heading in. The title track on the A-side is a brand new song we wrote and recorded right before heading out on our current tour with Portrayal Of Guilt. The B-side, “Bench Warrant” was written and recorded during the Dry Drunk sessions, but was ultimately cut from that album due to its slower, more melancholy sound interfering with pacing. Lyrically, both songs address the idea of taking chances and being willing to risk safety and comfort for a shot at something that makes you feel genuinely alive. Growth over stagnation, whatever the cost. This record also marks the first time we’ve released Street Sects material through Portrayal Of Guilt Records. Matt has been a close friend and collaborator since the earliest days of the band, and we’ve long admired his work as both an artist and a label owner. We’re thrilled to finally be able to put something out through his imprint.
