Carrie Brownstein Joined Kevin Morby For A Sleater-Kinney Song In Portland

If you're an indie-rock fan with wide-ranging yet pop-leaning tastes, last night's activities in Portland are probably relevant to you. As someone who just interviewed Kevin Morby and randomly just started listening to the audiobook of Carrie Brownstein's memoir, they're extremely relevant to me.

Morby, the Kansas City folk-rocker, is on tour right now promoting Little Wide Open, the exquisite new album he released last week. Tuesday night that tour arrived at Portland's Revolution Hall, where local legend Brownstein, of Sleater-Kinney and Portlandia fame, was in attendance. At one point Brownstein hopped onstage with a guitar to perform "Modern Girl," the ironic quasi-ballad from 2005's sonic slaughterhouse The Woods that gave Brownstein's book its title, Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girl.

Instead of forcing a weird duet, Morby ceded the microphone to Brownstein and handled harmonica duties on the song. Check out footage below, and watch out for the late-breaking cameo from the guy recording the performance.

You all probably learned this a decade ago, but Brownstein's book is really great.
