Angine de Poitrine Make Silent, Surprise Appearance To Accept Billboard Canada Award

The anonymous, elaborately costumed Montreal microtonal math-rock duo Angine de Poitrine are one of the more charming viral success stories in recent memory. Ever since the band's KEXP session went nuclear early this year, they've been getting the rock-star treatment, including high placement on festival lineups, heavy demand on Record Store Day, huge streaming numbers, and even tribute performances halfway around the world. Before they got famous, the duo won Artist Of The Year at the 2025 Gala Alternatif de la Musique Indépendante du Québec (GAMIQ). But now they are powerful, so their awards-show appearances hit different.

Wednesday night, Angine de Poitrine made a surprise appearance at the Billboard Canada Power Players 2026 ceremony at Toronto's Massey Hall. FACTOR Canada CEO Meg Symsyk presented bandmates Khn de Poitrine and Klek de Poitrine with the Global Breakthrough Award. According to Billboard, their appearance was short, sweet, and silent:

True to their artistry, the two members took the stage in full black and white polka dot costumes as their music played, walked up to the microphone, and then didn’t utter a single word. While they lingered on stage it seemed like they might say something, if even in their otherworldly language. Instead, Khn reached up and touched his hat, and a burst of black and white confetti showered the audience. Then, they left.
