Olivia Rodrigo Shares “stupid song” Video, Performs It For The First Time On Jimmy Kimmel

Olivia Rodrigo's heavily anticipated new album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love is finally out today. As if the great early singles "drop dead" and "the cure" and the involvement of figures like Robert Smith and Weyes Blood hadn't already convinced the discerning listeners of the world to care, Rodrigo did a ton of promo on the LA leg of her press tour this week. That included a surprise appearance at 102.7 KIIS FM listening event, a pop-up for AMEX, a love advice radio show with iHeartRadio, and two nights on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

In his review, my colleague Tom Breihan identified penultimate track "expectations" as the album's supreme highlight, and that song does indeed go hard. But the one that really knocked me out was "stupid song," which pops up second on the tracklist, right after opener and lead single "drop dead." Whereas "drop dead" chronicled the giddy, nauseous moments of a newly unfolding romance, "stupid song" is about all-consuming obsession: "I want you more than any stupid song could ever say."

That's the one Rodrigo has chosen to highlight today. A "stupid song" video is out now, and she performed the song on Kimmel last night. Mitch Ryan directed the video, which finds Rodrigo wandering the streets of New York, surrounded by a troupe of ballerinas from the NYC Ballet and American Ballet Theater, including Prima Ballerina Tiler Peck. In other scenes, Rodrigo, rocks out in a bodega with her bandmates, wearing a Blondie T-shirt. (Recall that Debbie Harry introduced her on Saturday Night Live.)

On Kimmel Thursday night, she sat at the piano for her "stupid song" performance. The night before, she sang "the cure" and sat for a 15-minute interview segment. You can check out all of that below, along with the "stupid song" video.
