One of the biggest hits of Sundance was The Invite, an anxious so-called comedy about a dinner party gone awry directed by Olivia Wilde, with a cast led by Wilde, Seth Rogen, Edward Norton, and Penélope Cruz and a script by Will McCormack and Rashida Jones. That film was acquired by A24, and it's coming out next month. Sooner than that, we'll get to hear its original score, composed by the great Devonté Hynes.
Hynes, aka Blood Orange, has previously scored film and TV projects including Melina Matsoukas’ Queen & Slim, Luca Guadagnino’s We Are Who We Are, Rebecca Hall’s Passing, and Paul Schrader’s Master Gardener. His score for The Invite is billed as a reflection of the movie's "inescapable dread and claustrophobia," sensations we glimpse on lead single "Contentious Environment." It's a sparse, brooding orchestral number that connotes building tension and rising action. Hear it below.
