In 2024, I included November Girl's awesome track "Yesterday" on my impeccable list of my favorite songs from that year. That came from her incredible Heart Prayer EP, and now the severely underrated shoegaze artist is back with a compelling, '90s-indebted anthem called "Earthly Form."
The sly grunge greatness of Radiohead's "Creep" or Marcy Playground's "Sex And Candy" can be found in this irresistible tune. Willa Rudolph, the project's mastermind, told antiMusic:
I wrote this song about an imaginary parasocial relationship our character has with a dead rock star. It was partly inspired by scrolling through Pinterest and seeing photos of Jeff Buckley, Amy Winehouse, Elliott Smith, and other artists I love who inspired me to make music. They're no longer with us, yet they live on through both their music and their image — their images living inside my screen.
As someone who has a parasocial relationship with Elliott Smith, I enjoy this concept. She also said it's her first single as a solo artist: "I still play and record with a band, but I've moved away from having permanent band members," she explained. "This release means a lot to me because it's proof that I can do it on my own." Yes, she can! Check out the accompanying music video directed by Layla Blue Rudolph below.
