Big Thief's Buck Meek has a new band. Earlier this year, Meek released his solo album The Mirror, and it included contributions from people like solo artist and former Here We Go Magic frontman Luke Temple, singer-songwriter Germaine Dunes, ambient composer Jesse Quebbeman-Turley, and guitarist Adam Brisbin. Since last year, Meek has also been in a band called Kisser with all four of those musicians. They've been quietly touring as Meek's opening act for a little while, and now they've put out their first release, a two-song single.
Last year, Kisser set up an Instagram page and toured with Buck Meek on the West Coast. Earlier this year, they opened for Meek in Europe and the UK. Members of Kisser are also in Meek's touring band, which means they're all working twice on those nights. On Tuesday, Meek kicked off a North American tour, with Kisser once again doing opening-act duty. That's also the day that Kisser released their new songs "Bad Boy Mountain" and "Ghostgirl."
Germaine Dunes sings lead on both new tracks, and her spectral voice pairs nicely with the band's tangled, groovy sound. You can certainly hear parallels between Big Thief and Kisser, especially if you know that the two band share a member. But Kisser have a sound of their own, a relatively linear take on classic-rock-leaning indie. Hear those tracks below.
Also on Tuesday, Luke Temple’s solo project Art Feynman released a new single called "Asleep At The Wheel," and that's below.
