Back in 1984, the pre-industrial synthpop version of Ministry had a single called "(Every Day Is) Halloween." On his 2007 mixtape track "Upgrade," Lil Wayne said, "I'm a monster, every day is Halloween." Those two songs seemingly don't have anything to do with each other, and I don't think either of them has anything to do with alexalone's new single "everydayishalloween," either. I guess all of those people just share that "every day is Halloween" mentality.
As the name implies, alexalone started out as a DIY indie rock solo project from Austin indie rock musician Alex Peterson, a former member of Hovvdy and Lomelda's live bands. They impressed us with 2023's ALEXALONE TECHNICAL RESEARCH and played our 2024 Marathon Austin party. Now, alexalone is paradoxically a trio, and their new song "everydayishalloween" is a fractured, ominous zone-out that combines scratchy guitars with disorienting samples. It sounds like the evil version of Explosions In The Sky. Listen below.
