Chidi Obialo is a 20-year-old Nigerian-born, Houston-based electronic producer who specializes in sample-collage tracks that never show the slightest adherence to any particular genre. He makes a whole lot of music, and he landed on my radar when my old friend Ryan Dombal profiled him for Hearing Things earlier this year.
Over the weekend, heavensouls shared "dawn of the city," a new track that lasts for nearly 10 minutes and keeps changing shape throughout. Drums and pianos and chopped-up samples come at you from all directions, but there's no herky-jerk IDM abrasiveness to the song. Instead, the track floats along on a bliss-cloud.
