Lily Seabird has been blowing us away with her Lightspheres On Their Way singles. Since last year's Trash Mountain, the Burlington singer-songwriter has been leaning into loudness with "Election Day" and "Portal To The Past," but she's returning to a mellow acoustic sound with today's offering "The Afterglow," which was partly inspired by the death of folk legend Michael Hurley.
"For part of this song, I imagined the perspective of the person who crashed their car through our fence and into our yard a couple weeks before," Seabird says, expounding:
I wrote this song when I still lived at trash mountain. I met tes [galucci] this year, and when I saw her juggling downtown, the pins reminded me of the lightspheres that had been inspiring me. She asked if I wanted to collaborate, and the idea for the video came together. We filmed her walking around the same neighborhood where we shot the "Trash Mountain (1pm)" music video. "The Afterglow" is about letting go, and the glow that's left after a light has gone, and before a new light has come.
