It's all one track. On any streaming service, Invasion Body Camera, the new collaborative EP from experimental rap titans Fatboi Sharif and ELUCID, shows up as a single 12-minute track, even though it's actually six individual songs. When I first his play, I didn't know what was going on. This is just a wonderfully unfriendly gesture. It's what Prince wanted to do with CD copies of The Black Album back in the day. I love it.
True New Jersey weirdo Fatboi Sharif, a onetime Stereogum Artist To Watch, is a prolific force these days; he teamed up with Child Actor for the collaborative album Crayola Circles earlier this year. You already know ELUCID as one half of Armand Hammer. As a solo artist, he teamed up with producer Sebb Bash on the album I Guess U Had To Be There earlier this year. But ELUCID also produces dense, skronky tracks of his own, and that's the role that he plays on Invasion Body Camera.
Other than a guest appearance from avant-rap pioneer and Antipop Consortium member Beans, Fatboi Sharif's voice is the only one that appears on Invasion Body Camera, while ELUCID produced, engineered, mixed, and mastered every song. The whole thing plays out as a bugged-out weirdo odyssey, not the kind of thing you can pillage for playlist material. Check it out below.
