These days, one of the few obvious ways that a band or an artist can level up and achieve a new measure of mainstream fame is by getting booked as a musical guest on Saturday Night Live. When Geese or Dijon or, hell, Sombr makes an SNL debut, that's a sign that they've reached a new pinnacle. Even if people hate them, they at least notice them. For many years, a guy named Brian Siedlecker has booked every musical guest on SNL. No longer.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Saturday Night Live has opted not to renew its contract with producer and talent booker Brian Siedlecker, who started as an intern on the show in 1996. Siedlecker has been booking musical guests on the show since 2001. The first one he got on there was "I'm Like A Bird"-era Nelly Furtado.
SNL, which will return for its 52nd season Sep. 26, still retains the services of bookers Keri Powers and Rebecca Schwartz, both of whom have been at the show for a little more than a decade. When The Hollywood Reporter asked NBC for comment, a rep said that the network "doesn’t comment on staffing."
