Back at the beginning of the year, Hayley Williams announced that she was teaming up with producer and longtime collaborator Daniel James to form a duo with the great name Power Snatch. A few days later, they dropped the Bandcamp exclusive EP1, their first collection of songs. Since then, Power Snatch have covered This Is Lorelei, shared new music via Instagram post, and teamed up with London artist Tiberius b for a couple of songs. Now, the second Power Snatch EP is here.
Power Snatch dropped EP2 on Bandcamp this afternoon without a word of advance warning, and I'm hearing it for the first time as I type this blog post. That means we're dealing with first impressions here. My initial thought is that Williams has found an idiosyncratic DIY way to present her towering charisma without losing any of it. Also, the first two tracks are a little more trip-hop than I expected, and I had to double-check that "Born Dead" wasn't another This Is Lorelei cover.
