Doo-wop legend Frankie Valli went viral in 2024, but it wasn't the good kind of viral. Videos showed the 90-year-old Valli still performing onstage, going through the long-familiar motions even though the backup singers behind him were clearly hitting most of the actual notes. When at least one online commenter likened Valli's continued performing career to "elder abuse," Valli himself felt the need to respond, saying that he planned to keep performing for as long as he possibly could. Valli was still taking casino bookings earlier this year, but now he's finally retired, at least according to his brother.
In an all-caps Facebook post on Wednesday, Frankie Valli's younger brother Bobby wrote about Frankie's many proud career accomplishments and went on to say, "HE WILL NOW RETIRE. WE WILL ALWAYS HAVE SPECIAL MEMORIES OF FRANKIE VALLI. HE HAS REACHED A PLACE IN HIS LIFE WHERE HIS FAMILY IS THERE TO LOVE, CHERISH AND TO BE THERE FOR HIM. WE APPRECIATE YOUR LOVE AND CONCERN."
Frankie Valli and the most recent lineup of his group the Four Seasons planned to play more tour dates earlier this year. In May, shortly after his 92nd birthday, he canceled his remaining dates. In a social-media statement, he said, "I have decided to take the rest of the year off from touring to focus on my health. I’m looking forward to getting healthy and seeing you all again soon."
Earlier this week, outlets like Page Six published photos of Frankie Valli being helped out of a car in Los Angeles, looking noticeably frail, and it seems likely that Bobby Valli announced Frankie's retirement in response. If Frankie is indeed fully retired, then his last performance, according to Setlist.fm, was at Pechanga Casino in Temecula California, and it happened late February back in '26. Oh, what a night.
