Courtney Love has been teasing a new solo album since 2023. It would serve as the followup to 2010's Nobody's Daughter, which was billed as a Hole record despite Love being the only member of the band involved. When she first mentioned the LP, she said it was "the longest record that's ever been written in the history of rock, so it better fuckin' be good, no filler." Then, in 2024, she shared that Michael Stipe and Will Sergeant were featured on it. Today, she offered another update on the album, while also revealing that she had been enduring health struggles in 2019 that almost resulted in her death.
"A lot of you are asking where my record is at. It's done. My record's done. It's kind of been done. It's a really good record. I put a lot into it," she said in a new video posted to her Instagram. Then, she continued:
I went to England in 2019 and when I went there, my body just exploded. It just exploded. And I was in hospitals a lot. I almost died. I lost all my hair. I was about 100 pounds. And they told me I was going to die. I didn't believe them. And when I was a kid, and I think this record is about this, I used to pattern interrupt the adults. And they tell me red. They say red was blue. And then I'd see blue, but blue was blue. So now that I gaslit myself that maybe they were right and red was blue. And then I would see purple and my head would explode. Like, fucking cope with that shit, right? I think some of you can relate to that. Anyway, I never really lost my ability to see that fucking red was red despite them telling me that red was blue. And so when they said you're going to die, I just didn't believe them. And somehow I got better. I'm healthy, which is amazing.
And so 2009 I put out a record, it flopped. I mean, spectacular, humbling, humbling. Like playing a place called Pizza Hut Park at 11 a.m. while Limp Bizkit was headlining with Thirty Seconds To Mars. That shit's humbling. But I'm just tapping in, figuring out how to roll this out. Things are great right now. There's so much spectacular stuff. People sound great live. The girlies are amazing. Yeah. Shit's amazing. I just need to understand how to do this.
