Last year, Neil Young and his current backing band Chrome Hearts did a whole lot of touring, and they initially planned to keep it going into this year. Young and Chrome Hearts announced a European tour for June and July of this year. A few months before it was going to take place, though, Young canceled the tour, explaining that he "decided to take a break." That break is over, as Young will join his old friend and fellow icon Willie Nelson for a pair of East Coast shows in December.
In May, Neil Young made a surprise live return at a Vancouver benefit that honored his friend, the Canadian environmentalist David Suzuki, on Suzuki's 90th birthday. Young's most recent full-band show was last October. Next month, Young and Chrome Hearts will release their new album Second Song, which will include a few unreleased tracks that Young wrote in 1963.
Young and Willie Nelson were already planning to play this year's Farm Aid together on Sep. 26 in Virginia Beach. Yesterday, Young announced two more gigs before the benefit. Willie Nelson & Family and Neil Young & Chrome Hearts will play Sep. 22 at Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater in Bridgeport Connecticut and Sep. 24 at Philadelphia's Highmark Mann Center For The Performing Arts. Ty Myers will open both shows.
Tickets for both shows are on sale Friday at 10 a.m. eastern; go to the Neil Young Archives website for details.
