It's been just over a decade since we lost Prince, and it feels like we're only scratching the surface of the famously prolific artist's vast archives of unheard music. Today, Prince's estate releases Timeless, a new collection of rare and previously unreleased Prince recordings spanning his earliest moments in 1977 to his 2016 death. Most of those songs have been circulating for years, in one form or another, but at least one song on Timeless appears to be entirely new.
Prince recorded the lush, heavily orchestrated midtempo soul ballad "Bestest Friend" in 2012. That's not exactly the most celebrated part of Prince's career, but the song itself is big and sleek and gorgeous. The dueling guitar/horn parts are especially nice. I bet this song would've crushed live. Check it out below.
Timeless is out now on Legacy Recordings.
