Last year, Brandi Carlile released her latest LP Returning To Myself, and she's getting ready to share an expanded edition, amazingly titled Returning To Myself (Sad Gay Version), next week. The singer-songwriter commenced a three-night stint at Colorado's Red Rocks on Friday (Sept. 11), and she brought out Alanis Morissette during the second show.
On the first night, Carlile did Morissette's 1998 hit "Uninvited" by herself, and the following evening they sang it together, as well as her Jagged Little Pill track "Hand In My Pocket." The two have done Olivia Newtown-John covers before, at Mothership Weekend last year. The first time Carlile covered the "Uninvited" was actually at Red Rocks almost exactly a year prior; she went on to cover it dozens of times, including at the Songwriters Hall Of Fame in June, where she inducted Morissette. Carlile's live version from Newport Folk was released on streaming over the summer. She has called it "unhinged."
