The acclaimed FX series Snowfall was set in Los Angeles during the crack cocaine epidemic of the 1980s. The new spinoff The Drop: A Snowfall Saga follows Snowfall characters Wanda Bell and Leon Simmons into 1990s LA, a time when West Coast rap was exploding in popularity worldwide. Airing on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET, the show premiered last week and is back with a new episode tonight. It contains a previously unreleased track from a fallen LA rap hip-hop icon.
"LA Theme Song" features an unused verse from the late, great Nipsey Hussle, who somehow has been gone seven years now. It lasts only a minute, but it's great to hear his voice again. The soundtrack was created under the supervision of 1500 Or Nothin’ co-founder Rance Dopson, who worked with Nipsey during his lifetime. According to a "Behind The Beat" featurette about "LA Theme Song," the Nipsey verse was originally recorded for his 2018 single "Dedication" but removed to make room for Kendrick Lamar's guest spot.
