Are y'all up on Purplish? Mdou Moctar bassist Mikey Coltun started the boutique label with Mark O'Donnell a couple years back to present curated tunes from lesser known parts of the world. Their flagship artist is TAKAAT, the Mdou Moctar offshoot, but they've got a wealth of other releases on Bandcamp for your perusal.
The latest is a new TAKAAT split with SAICOBAB, an alias of Yoshimi from the Boredoms and OOIOO. Her sitar-threaded "Death Nap The Dance II" is somehow both hypnotic and unruly. TAKAAT's track "Ikapkaban" pairs nasty electric guitar business with the kind of thumping that might put a hole in the floor.
Don't sleep on these ones! You certainly couldn't sleep through them.
The SAICOBAB/TAKAAT split 7" is out now on Purplish. Snag it here.
