Eric Slick is the longtime drummer of the Philadelphia band Dr. Dog, and he's also got an extensive history of backing up other artists on record and onstage — Taylor Swift on her 2021 Maren Morris collab "You All Over Me," Waxahatchee and MJ Lenderman and Wilco's Sky Blue Sky fest earlier this year. Slick (what a cool name) also makes solo records, most recently 2024's New Age Rage. In March of 2027, Slick will return with Bounce House, his latest solo LP.
Why are people announcing albums that won't be out for another six months? It's baffling to me. I don't get it. There must be some reason, though. Liars just did it, and now here's Eric Slick. According to the promotional material, Bounce House, which Slick self-produced at his Nashville studio, is "inspired by Beastie Boys, Peter Gabriel, ’70s no wave, The Pop Group, and Roxy Music." That's quite a range!
Bounce House lead single "Mannequin" starts off as idiosyncratic synthpop, and the big melodies and fuzzed-out guitars come crashing in on the chorus. According to the Tidal credits, Slick co-wrote the song with Speedy Ortiz's Andy Molholt and Kasey Musgraves/Natalie Prass collaborator Kyle Ryan. According to Slick's Instagram, it features Molly Martin and Jamie Lidell. Check out the appealingly homemade "Mannequin" video and the Bounce House tracklist below.
