In May, NYC-based musician Grant Chapman, who's the percussionist for Chris Taylor's Body Meat, released the self-titled debut for his sample-based project Torture Methods. Torture Methods is a gothic, glitch-ridden nightmare — but one of those fun ones that plays out in the mind like a surrealist arthouse film. On Friday Sept. 18, Chapman returned with a new single "RIPPER, REAPER."
"RIPPER, REAPER" is seductive and haunting. There's demonic screams and chopped vocal clips. They all swirl in a cyclone of jungle. There's some wompage, echoes of chains, and a flowery melody that nearly feels Mozartian. The Bandcamp description of the track reads: "Over the festering belly buzzed the flies, out of it crawled the worms of decay, in squadrons dark and sluggish stream seething along the ragged flesh." Spooky!
