The Columbus country-rocker Lydia Loveless released their last album Nothing's Gonna Stand In My Way Again in 2023. Last year Loveless shared a series of one-off writing-challenge tracks on Bandcamp, including a very good song called "Accolades." They've since taken down most of those Bandcamp tracks, "Accolades" included. Next month, Loveless will release a brand new EP that's called Accolades, and it's lead single is a brand-new version of the title track.
Lydia Loveless recorded the Accolades EP in Memphis, co-producing with the Margo Price/Mountain Goats collaborator Matt Ross-Spang, who also engineered it. It's got two different versions of "Accolades," which "felt like the centerpiece" of the EP, according to Loveless. Here's what they say about it:
I think for me the heart of "Accolades" is trying to return to a place of quiet observation and meditation, the deep dark hole being more a place to sit and think about motivation for doing things as opposed to a place to wallow. Of course, there’s some nostalgia in there too, not for the good old days exactly but for a sense of self.
